Housing developer Bromford has held an official ground-breaking ceremony for Merret Place in Winchcombe – its largest self-built scheme to date.

The development’s Site Manager, Scott Finnegan, Construction Manager, Craig Derrick, Head of Construction, Simon Kershaw, Senior Marketing Co-ordinator Simon Allen, and Senior Sales Executive, Kirstie Brown were recently joined on site by Gloucestershire County Councillor David Gray to cut the sod at the brand-new development, which will provide a mixture of two, three, four and five-bedroom properties to the popular village.

Located off Delavale Road, just one mile from Winchcombe town centre, the development will be made up of 50 homes for Shared Ownership and affordable rent, and 50 homes for outright sale, with first handovers expected in January 2024.

Councillor Gray said, “It’s great to be at the Merret Place development where we’re going to see 100 new homes which are very much needed for the local community.

“Having homes for sale through outright, Shared Ownership, and affordable rent makes a big contribution to helping the current housing crisis across the borough.”

Scott Finnegan, Site Manager at Merret Place said, “We’re very excited to be involved in a development like Merret Place, delivering homes accessible to all people in Winchcombe and the surrounding areas.”

Merret Place is located in the heart of the town, providing new home buyers with the perfect blend of community, rural pursuits, cultural significance, and amenities including high-quality schools, the Winchcombe Museum and places to socialise.

The new homes will be designed with modern living in mind, with high energy-efficiency and plenty of space for remote working, while selected homes will have electric vehicle charging points installed.

Catherine Jarrett, Director of Sales and Marketing at Bromford, said, “It’s great to welcome Councillor Gray to site to discuss plans for our largest Bromford-built development, and we are incredibly excited for work to have officially commenced here.

“Winchcombe is a fantastic area with an intriguing mix of history and community with many lovely rural walks on its doorstep.

“All of the homes will be built to a high specification, and we expect them to be incredibly popular, therefore we would highly recommend any who is interested to get in touch right away to avoid missing out on a great home.”

Shared Ownership gives first-time buyers and those who do not currently own a property the opportunity to secure a new build home with Bromford.

Homebuyers pay a mortgage on the share they own, and pay rent on the remaining share, meaning only a smaller deposit is required.
