The team at Berkshire-based Francis Construction are now a few weeks into their Around the World Challenge, which kicked off on New Year’s Day.

Together they’re raising for the firm’s chosen charity No5, who provide support and professional counselling to children and young people and their families in the RG postcode area.

Last year Francis Construction raised more than £8,000 for No5 across a range of activities. This year’s challenge sought to combine their fundraising efforts with fitness and wellbeing.

Two teams at the company have laced up their running shoes, jumped on their bikes and begun logging their steps, with an aim to hit 40,075km by the end of the year – that’s the circumference of the equator. They’ve already reached 2,300km so far.

Among the planned activities are four mountain climbing trips and a monthly bikeathon, where the teams will take turns throughout the day on two gym bikes.

Will Barrett, MD of Francis Construction, said: “We like to think we make an impact and protect our local community through the actions we take as a business.

“By supporting No5, we’re certain that the young people today gain the right tools to create a healthy, sustainable tomorrow.

“Our collective team engagement means that we all put a small brick in building the foundation for a better world in the future.”

Demand for No5’s services has never been higher in the wake of the pandemic.

More than 900 young people and their families have sought help from the charity over the past 12 months, and in 2022, they provided over 8,500 counselling sessions.
