Beard Construction enters into strategic partnership with eco building experts Green Unit
Beard Construction has announced a new, long-term strategic partnership with eco-build experts Green Unit Limited.
The move is part of Oxford and Swindon-based Beard’s desire to be more sustainable and longer term, to more actively drive sustainable alternatives in the industry.
Green Unit design and manufactures low carbon buildings that are sold under the ARC™ brand name and constructed using Passivhaus principles. They are distinctive and environmentally-friendly with low embodied carbon in their construction and high operational performance due to their levels of insulation and airtightness. ARC buildings are manufactured offsite in road transportable sections and delivered to site virtually complete.
The move will enhance Green Unit’s ability to provide its customers with premium quality, modular, eco-buildings for commercial, community and residential use and to accelerate its development and production.
Green Unit was co-founded by Jonathan Finnerty (Managing Director) in 2012 and is based near Abingdon in Oxfordshire.
Beard Executive chairman, Mark Beard, said: "Off-site and modular construction methods are being increasingly used all the time in our industry. These techniques can significantly improve quality, reduce construction time and lessen dependence on site works. We have been looking for some time for a long-term partner with this expertise. I am delighted that we have entered into this relationship with Green Unit to support its ongoing growth and development. It is important for Beard to transfer knowledge about modular construction methods into our core business and in due course have a modular offering for our customers.
Jonathan Finnerty, Managing Director at Green Unit, added: "Beard has an excellent quality, environmental and ethical reputation and a large customer base, notably in the education sector. Beard has grown significantly in recent years and is well-placed to assist and support our young company as we grow our production capability. We look forward to developing a modular building offering with Beard, which can be offered to Beard customers.
As part of the collaboration, Chad Murrin (a non-executive director of Beard) has joined the Board of Green Unit. It is also expected that there will be short-term secondments by members of Beard’s staff to Green Unit next year.
Green Unit is relocating all operations to its new 21,000 m² factory at Lockwood Farm at Culham near Abingdon.
