Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes have provided deposits for key workers in the South West worth more than £2.4 million.

During the first six months of the year, Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes have helped almost 140 key workers across the South West buy their own properties by paying towards their deposits.

Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes, part of the country’s biggest housebuilder, Barratt Developments, recently extended its deposit contribution scheme meaning help is now available for key workers for reservations until 15 December.

Under the scheme, key workers are offered £1,000 as a deposit contribution for every £20,000 of a home’s purchase price. So for a home that costs £325,000, key workers qualify for a contribution of £16,250.

Not only that, there’s funding towards flooring, worth up to a further one per cent of the value of the property.

The scheme is designed to help a range of key workers including the NHS, teachers, police and fire services, MOD, local authorities, probation and prison services, environmental service and national highways.

Andrea Pilgrim, sales director for Barratt Homes Bristol, said: “We understand the immense contributions key workers make day in and day out. Providing them with a helping hand will enable them to put down roots in the communities they serve.”

Primary school teacher Chloe Nicholas and her partner Finley are buyers in the South West that have recently benefited from the Key Worker Deposit Contribution scheme which has fast-tracked them into the home they’d long been saving for.

"I don't know what pleased me more - seeing Barratt acknowledge the difference teachers make and the help they might need via this special ‘thank you’ offer - or discovering that we could buy a house so far ahead of when we thought possible,” said Chloe, who started her teaching career at a primary school last year.

“We'd been putting away every spare penny towards a deposit, but it's a slow process when you're renting as well.”

Louise Ware, sales director for Barratt David Wilson Homes South West added: “Homeownership should be within reach for those who contribute so much to the wellbeing of our region. We are proud to stand alongside our local key workers to help make their aspirations of owning a home a reality."

Since its launch in October 2022, Barratt has supported more than 2,000 key workers across the country with deposits worth more than £23 million.
