Top 15 accountancy firm MHA MacIntyre Hudson has appointed Batanayi Katongera as a partner to lead its transfer pricing service line.

Whilst based in London and the Thames Valley, Katongera will work with mha’s clients across the firm offering 20 years of transfer pricing experience across various industry sectors including financial services, manufacturing, media and technology, life sciences and telecommunications. Katongera's focus will be on preparing and managing transfer pricing policies, with a particular focus on resolving disputes.

Katongera joins MHA MacIntyre Hudson from Transfer Pricing Inside Africa, a platform for news, analysis and technical articles, and was previously head of transfer pricing at law firm Macfarlanes.

Rakesh Shaunak, managing partner and group chairman of MHA MacIntyre Hudson, said: “We’re very pleased to have Batanayi join us to drive our transfer pricing service offering. His appointment adds to our fast growing team of specialists to strengthen our service for clients with cross-border transactions, an important part of our involvement in the Baker Tilly International network.”

Chris Denning, partner and head of corporate international tax at MHA MacIntyre Hudson, added: “Following the OECD’s BEPs review, and high-profile media coverage of multinational tax structures, the focus of global tax authorities is on the taxation of the value derived in and from their local marketplaces. This is clearly evidenced in the UK with anti-avoidance measures such as diverted profits tax, a proposed digital services tax and now a diverted profits disclosure facility.

“Strengthening our transfer pricing resources and expertise is a key objective to ensure we can proactively help our clients deal with the complexities of transfer pricing both from a compliance and strategic planning perspective.”

Katongera commented: “I’m excited to join the firm at a time when the transfer pricing environment in the UK and internationally has never been more challenging. MHA MacIntyre Hudson has a strong track record of working with clients expanding internationally, who face the challenge of complying with often complex rules in multiple jurisdictions. As the firm’s relationship with the Baker Tilly International network grows stronger than ever, we can offer our clients full support when making international business decisions.”
