Sam Godbold has joined Smith & Williamson, the accountancy, investment management and tax group’s assurance and business services department in Southampton as a senior manager. Godbold joins having previously worked at both Mazars and Grant Thornton as a senior manager within the assurance team.

He commented: “I am thrilled to join the assurance and business services team at Smith & Williamson, at a time where the firm is investing and growing locally. The range of clients at the firm, the depth and variety of complimentary services the firm can provide and its reputation for client relationships and services were the key drivers in joining.”

Jacob Wornham has also joined the same team as an audit senior, having previously worked at Carpenter Box.

Their appointments have come at a key time for the office which is growing rapidly with an increasing focus on scale-up, innovative and entrepreneurial businesses. With the recent addition of a business outsourcing service in the office, these key appointments continue to cement the commitment of the firm to Southampton.

As the Innovation Zone key sponsor at Venturefest South, the firm works with many innovative companies helping them raise funding through EIS investments and claim tax credits through R&D tax credits relief.

Andrew Edmonds, managing partner of the Southampton office of Smith & Williamson, said: “I’m thrilled that Sam and Jacob have joined Smith & Williamson. Sam brings with him a great deal of experience of a multitude of different sized businesses including scale-ups. Jacob brings further experience looking after owner-managed businesses in Southampton and is already proving to be an excellent addition to the team. They both further strengthen our local team."
