Technology incubator SETsquared Partnership has appointed Marty Reid as its new interim executive director.

Marty has been director of Engine Shed in Bristol since 2020 as well as SETsquared Bristol since January 2022.

He takes the helm from Simon Bond, who has been SETsquared’s innovation director since 2014 and is now taking up the role of director of Bristol innovations at the University of Bristol.

“The SETsquared Partnership has an incredible track record of supporting talent and building ventures at scale, particularly from pipelines of university research," said Marty.

"I’m looking forward to joining the team to see where we can build on both our profile and potential to create further impact.”

Marty became the director of Engine Shed at the beginning of the pandemic and led the team as they adapted and strengthened their support for the start-up community during the lockdown.

He is a passionate supporter of diversity and inclusion within the tech sector and has led programmes at SETsquared Bristol which have significantly increased participation from under-represented groups.

Prior to Engine Shed and SETsquared Bristol, Marty was centre director for Bristol innovation hub, Future Space, and worked at Rolls-Royce in roles spanning business and technology strategy, global account management and service delivery.

Peter Davison is deputy editor of The Business Magazine. He has spent his life in journalism – doing work experience in newsrooms in and around Bristol while still at school, and landing his first job on a local newspaper aged 19. By 28 he was the youngest newspaper editor in the country.

An early advocate of online news, he spent the first years of the 2000s telling his bosses that the internet posed both the biggest opportunity and greatest threat to the newspaper industry and the art of journalism. He was right on both counts.

Since 2006 he has enjoyed a career as a freelance journalist. He lives in rural Wiltshire with one wife, two children, and three cats.
