Law firm Freeths has strengthened its offering in the Southeast with the appointment of partner Gavin Scott to lead the family team in Oxford.

This latest appointment will see Gavin expand the team, while working alongside colleagues nationally.

With over 20 years’ experience, Gavin’s expertise spans all aspects of family law, specialising in complex and high asset financial matters.

Gavin also brings with him extensive experience with international work, relating to both finances and children, ranging from complex offshore investments, foreign property and Trusts to international relocation and child abduction.

Examples include having obtained worldwide freezing orders, locking down property and assets in multiple jurisdictions and recently securing the safe return of two young children abducted to Lebanon in the Middle East.

International family cases have covered the US, Europe, the Middle East and Australia.

Gavin is renowned for his individualised, personal approach to his clients, often being said to have empowered them through the process, providing clear, strategic advice and making what can often be a very difficult experience, far easier to manage.

Freeths Oxford Family Team support and advise clients from the beginning of a relationship where they can assist with prenuptial and cohabitation agreements, to when a relationship breaks down, at which point they provide bespoke advice on dispute resolution, divorce, finances, and child related issues, all with a particular focus on the client’s needs and personal circumstances.

Sarah Foster, Oxford Managing Partner and Joint National Head of Practice Client Services, said: “We are delighted to welcome Gavin to Freeths. Gavin brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise that will further enhance our family law service in Oxfordshire and his appointment will enable us to grow the team in this important area.

'Gavin is another example of our commitment to recruit and retain the highest calibre lawyers and provide first class advice to our impressive range of clients.”

Gavin said: “It is so important to understand a client’s needs, feelings and priorities from the outset. Only then can you properly guide them through the process and focus on achieving what really matters to them.

"One of the elements that attracted me to Freeths, is the opportunity to lead a team that are well known for their client service.

"Having been here for a few weeks now, there is a real sense of teamwork and energy at Freeths which I am excited to be a part of."
