Thatcham Research raises thousands for charity at break neck speeds
Thatcham Research, the automotive risk intelligence company, has raised £2,750 in a charity rally in a restored 2007 Mazda MX5.
The two-day event saw Andy Mackay and Samuel Morris drive from Lotus HQ in Norfolk to Doddington Hall, Lincoln, making pit stops at Brigg, Cadwell Park circuit and Stourton Park.
Donated by UK automotive remarketing, recycling, and auction company Copart UK, the Mazda MX 5 used by Andy and Samuel was restored by apprentices at Thatcham Research’s automotive academy.
The apprentices found a number of issues with the cars brakes, bumpers and electrics.
Thatcham Research Academy Team Leader, Scott Loran, said: “Together, we made a list of required components, sourcing a lot from eBay so we could use second hand parts to keep the build as sustainable as possible.”

Andy Mackay said: Mackay said: “Taking part in the AutoRaise Rally was a great opportunity to network and showcase the great work both AutoRaise does and the extremely high standard of engineering skill, talent, and attention to detail that our trainers and apprentices have at Thatcham Research.”
