South Coast-based Hendy Group says a January high for new car sales reflects its own strong performance across the region.

Figures released  reveal a 2.9% rise compared with January last year with private motorists leading the rise, up 5%.

Hendy Group – which operates 12 motor franchises at 25 locations including Southampton, Winchester and Portsmouth - says this positive market growth and buoyancy has been visible across all of its dealerships.

Commercial director Mark Busby said the group was working with brands which were performing well and offering buyers new technology and cars which were safer and cleaner than ever before.

“We have seen the launch of a raft of new models in recent months, increasing interest in new technology and more people taking advantage of attractive finance deals which all helped boost new car sales,” he said.

“Private buyers still see new cars as aspirational and we are now selling cars to buyers looking to beat the April deadline for the rise in VED duties.”

Busby added that key performers included the Ford Fiesta, the top seller, together with Kia, at number 10 with the Sportage.

“The new car market continues to grow and we look forward to another strong year,’’ he said. “As the year unfolds we predict a year of consolidation after five years of growth but we believe our good reputation for service, quality new cars and the continued availability of good finance deals will help us maintain our position.”
