Outside hospitality opens across the Cotswolds

The Old Prison, Northleach, opened its doors to the public for the first time since December at 10am on April 12th and is one of many hospitality businesses trying to make the most of the latest relaxing of lockdown rules which allows outdoor drinking and dining.

The latest regulations apply including limited numbers to a group and table service. The Old Prison has a large garden, previously an exercise yard so is able to open, offering brunch and lunch, afternoon teas, juices and ice cream.

In Cirencester, The Golden Cross Inn has opened its courtyard beer garden. One of its first guests was David Priestly who said: “We have missed the pub, it is part of British culture, to see friends, family, to laugh and to enjoy great food as well as, of course, a good pint.”

It may not be the warmest of April’s but many are still visiting the Cotswold lakes around South Cerney and Cirencester. The Gateway Café, Bar at Lake 6 and The Waterside Kitchen and Bar have enjoyed a positive early start to outdoor trading. Bar at Lake 6 manager Louis Mulcock sold his first pint of draft lager at 12pm exactly. “The lakes have remained busy throughout lockdown with so many choosing to walk their dogs or exercise. Because of this people have seen the developments we have made to The Gateway and the new addition of Bar at Lake 6. It has been a busy start to the day and as the week goes on and the weather gets better we are expecting to be very busy – it is great to be back open and serving again.“
