A campervan conversion business in Coventry is looking to add to its 17 employees after riding a wave of success despite the challenges of current climate.

Spartan Campers, based at The Arches Industrial Estate in Spon End, specializes in transforming various Volkswagen Transporter vans into luxurious campervans complete with modern conveniences.

These include integrated features like microwaves, fridge freezers, heating systems, and even built-in wardrobes capable of accommodating four to five individuals for seating and four for sleeping.

The company was conceived by Joe O’Leary and Gabriel O’Donoghue, both of whom leveraged their extensive experience from previous engagements in the campervan industry to birth Spartan Campers.

The pair wanted to make luxury campervans more affordable for customers without compromising on quality.

Joe said: "We started with meagre resources – just a lone van and a single unit at The Arches Industrial Estate.

“Through word-of-mouth praise, social media visibility, relentless hard work, and countless late nights, our clientele expanded exponentially."

This success meant Spartan’s single unit on The Arches Industrial Estate – owned by Tony Harris, Commercial Landlord - soon became two, and later three as it brought its production, office and showroom all under one roof.

Each base van is stripped and reconfigured according to individual customer specifications, a process typically completed within three weeks.

The business is hoping to double its build and output capacity within the next 12 months as it looks to hire more staff across all areas of the business as it evolves.

It is also diversifying its services by introducing a rental service and a ‘try-before-you-buy’ initiative.

Joe cites being based at The Arches Industrial Estate as a key part of their success.

He added: “Our geographical location has proved pivotal. Our customers hail from across the UK and even Ireland. Being centrally situated, close to Coventry’s ring road, is indispensable.

“Tony and his team have been brilliant throughout our time here. Moving into our first unit, and expanding into two more in the same building, was a seamless process.

“We’re really looking to grow Spartan Campers even more here, and we’re excited to see what the future holds.”

The Arches Industrial Estate was transformed into a thriving site for business after Tony Harris Commercial Landlord, bought it in 2010. It is now home to more than 50 businesses in variety of sectors.

Tony said: “It’s been great to see how far Spartan Campers has come in such a short amount of time.

“Joe and Gabriel clearly had the entrepreneurial spirit and drive needed to make Spartan a success, so it’s no surprise to see them continuing to grow.

“We’re looking forward to helping them continue their journey and enabling them to grow as much as possible.”
