Two regional winners in the Recycling and Waste Management awards
Cheltenham based Printwaste Recycling & Shredding has won Paper Recycling Business of the Year at the Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management. The awards were handed out at The Landmark Hotel in London on Wednesday 18 May. The awards are recognised as one of the most prestigious events in the environmental calendar and aim to celebrate the organisational excellence of the UK’s leading waste and recycling companies.
A&A Recycling in Coventry was also a winner, securing the award for Wood Recycling Business of the Year.
There were 16 categories in total, including a new award for ‘Contribution to Achieving Net Zero’, all of which were rigorously judged by a panel of experts from across the industry.
In 2021, Printwaste recycled 20,185.98 tonnes of cardboard, confidential and non-confidential paper from their customers, equating to 61.64% of the total waste that they manage, and 69.2% of all the recyclate that they handle. All recyclable paper and cardboard collected is turned back into products such as copier paper, newspapers and cereal boxes.
Printwaste’s entry into the Paper Recycling Business of the Year category detailed its commitment to circular economy practices and achieving net zero, meeting the specification requirements outlined by paper mills to ensure that the right grade of materials goes to the right place, as well as their localisation strategy. The majority of paper and cardboard is collected from customers within a sixty-mile radius of their Cheltenham depot, and their onward processing strategy is to use close proximity paper mills with shared core values of low environmental impact, zero to landfill, or dedication to recycling.
Don Robins, Managing Director at Printwaste Recycling and Shredding said “It’s an honour to receive this award in recognition of all that we do for our customers and their businesses. Quality is at the heart of what we do, both from a recycling perspective as well as a service one so this award embodies our continuous drive to perform at such a level. The whole team has been instrumental in our success, continuing to deliver high levels of excellence across our customer base, so a huge thanks and credit must go to them”
