The Solent Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) has collaborated with the Careers & Enterprise Company (CEC) to launch its Teacher Engagement Programme, designed to bring greater awareness of future career paths into mainstream education.
Teachers and non-teaching staff in the Solent area will have the opportunity to meet with professionals from different sectors through site visits and classroom presentations. Solent LEP has engaged with a huge number of regional employers, including the NHS and Cowes Harbour Commission, to offer a range of options in industries such as construction, journalism, and medicine.
LEP Director and Skills Lead Brooke Hoskins said: “This new project will support teachers in our schools and colleges, who play an extremely important role in helping young people set out on careers, and show them what is possible.
“Working in industry myself, I believe that regional businesses and organisations could really step up to support this and here’s a brilliant way we can do that. This exchange will help teachers to continue to inspire the next generation, and to build the future talent base that the region’s industries will need in coming years.”

The programme will bring teachers up to speed on emerging trends in the fast-changing world of business, providing the tools they need to pass on to their students as they explore technical and vocational training.
Kat Millmore-Davies, Education Outreach Lead for the 350+ NHS Careers Programme, said: “Staff in our schools are dedicated to their students’ futures, but the demands of the profession often mean that Careers CPD is overlooked.
“This interactive opportunity from the Solent LEP will offer staff the chance to meet professionals linked to their curriculum areas, making this training up to date and relevant to them and their students.
“Every teacher is a teacher of careers, and this offer will not only upskill school staff, but also forge lasting links with employers to add depth and breadth to their delivery in classrooms. With over 350 careers in the NHS, we are excited to share these across the region.”
