More than 50 Gloucester businesses raise £8,000 for city food bank
With the Help of Gloucester Quays Rotary Club, more than 50 Gloucester businesses have raised close to £8,000 for Gloucester Foodbank
The Rotary Club says it has filled the trailer, its primary goal, and is now able to give the remainder as a donation of cash to Gloucester foodbank to help them over the Christmas period.
The Gloucester Food Bank provides three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to it in crisis. It is are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.
The Foodbank Network was founded in 2004 after four years of developing the original foodbank based in Salisbury. Since then The Trussell Trust has helped communities work together to launch foodbanks nationwide in a wide range of towns and cities.
In 2019/20, The Trussell Trust’s Foodbank Network provided 1,900,122 three-day emergency food supplies and support to UK people in crisis. Of these, 720,504 went to children.
As a network, it wants to see more people helped out of crisis and fewer people needing foodbanks in the future. That’s why The Trussell Trust and local foodbanks are working together to develop new ways to help people out of crisis through programmes like More Than Food.
