Green award win for Worcestershire Parkway Railway Station
A Worcestershire railway station has been recognised by a national body with an environmental assessment award.
Opening in February 2020, Worcestershire Parkway Railway Station received a Civil Engineering Environmental Quality Assessment Award (CEEQUAL) and a “very good” rating for its commitment to sustainable working and its impact on the local area.
Initiatives including the re-use of materials from the project on site and better drainage leading to improvements to the local water environment received specific plaudits.
Councillor Marc Bayliss, Cabinet Member for Economy, Infrastructure and Skills, said: “Sustainability was a key factor throughout the design and construction phases of the Worcestershire Parkway Railway Station project.
“The station has helped to reduce road congestion and this has been considered through every stage of development. We also demonstrated in the submission how other benefits can be achieved, such as alleviating flooding and improving biodiversity.”
