Elizabeth Line connects Reading to Central London
Passengers travelling into London from Reading using the Elizabeth Line will no longer need to change at Paddington, after the line’s separate sections were connected.
As of November 6, trains leaving Reading will now continue to Abbey Wood in south-east London instead of disembarking at Paddington, however passengers may need to change trains at the same platform in central London stations, with TfL recommending Whitechapel Elizabeth Line station due to its layout.
TfL also advises that, until May 2023, trains may need to wait at Paddington for a short time before continuing into London, however “customers on these services will have a faster overall journey compared to changing at Paddington up to now”.

As well as connecting the lines, extra services have been added, including two extra from Maidenhead during quieter times, meaning travellers from Maidenhead, Burnham, Slough and Langley will now see four trains per hour during those times.
In Central London, 22 trains will run per hour between Paddington and Whitechapel in the busiest periods, and 16 will run per hour during quieter ones. The line is also now running on Sundays for the first time.
Transport Secretary Mark Harper told BBC News: "Through our £9bn investment, it's great to have contributed to a line which in just five short months has shown itself to be a staple of London's transport network delivering over 60 million journeys and creating over 55,000 jobs."
