Babcock has won two contracts worth a combined £120 million for work on the UK's new Dreadnought Class of submarine, while the international defence giant has also celebrated several recent award wins.

The Dreadnought boats will replace the Vanguard Class in the early 2030s to maintain the UK's continuous at sea deterrent.

And the contracts, which will support hundreds of jobs across the UK, comprise a 4.5 year £66 million deal with the Ministry of Defence (MOD) to provide input into the development of submarines' support solution.

Babcock has also won a £55 million contract from BAE Systems for Weapon Handling and Launch System (WHLS) and submerged signal ejector equipment for boats 2-4 of the Dreadnought Class.

"Contributing our extensive expertise on the complex support submarines require is a hugely important aspect to the design of this new platform. By participating early in the programme, we will help to maximise the UK’s future defence capabilities," said Babcock CEO David Lockwood.

The government's minister for defence procurement, James Cartlidge, added: "The Dreadnought Class will be central to keeping our country safe and will further enhance our world-renowned submarine fleet."

It comes as Babcock has been celebrating a raft of award wins and accolades for teams and projects from across the group, including at the 'Institute of Collaborative Working Awards' at the House of Lords last week.

Its 10 Dock Programme team picked up the 'Collaboration for National Security award' for managing the major infrastructure development at Babcock's Devonport site, aimed at sustaining the UK's submarines for decades to come.

Alongside partners, Babcock also won in the 'Collaboration for Defence' category for work carried out by its Joint Platform Engineering Team aimed at to reducing the volume of submarine maintenance.

The company was also shortlisted for the 'Collaboration Enabling Equality, Diversity and Inclusion' award.
Elsewhere, a team from Babcock's Cavendish Nuclear business also secured the 'Safe Project Management' award at last week’s Association for Project Management Project Management Awards.

The group also revealed it had received the highly commended award for most inclusive employer at the 'Celebrating Neurodiversity Awards 2023'.

Babcock said: "We are extremely proud of these recent achievements, and the people that made them possible.

"Coming from all corners of the business, these wins demonstrate our commitment to deliver excellence as we continue to create a safe and secure world, together."
