Wiltshire based Arkell’s Brewery, which currently is building a multi-million pound new pub at Tadpole Village near Swindon, has joined The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) initiative by planting trees on its brewery site.  The QGC is a unique, UK-wide tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022, which invites people to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee.”

The Prunus 'Pink Perfection' now grace the green, on site at the family brewery in Swindon. Present at the planting were three generations of the Arkell family. Izzy Arkell, the current chairman’s grand-daughter added the final top grow compost to ensure the successful establishment of the new trees.

Following the planting, Chairman, James Arkell made a toast, unveiling the brewery’s new beer created to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

He said “There is no more fitting way to honour Her Majesty's Jubilee than by participating in an initiative striving to do something positive for the environment, and helping to safeguard it for our children and grandchildren.”

The beer, brewed by James’ son Alex Arkell who is head Head Brewer, is a smooth dark amber ale which gives a sweet caramel undertone, then a good dose of hops brings moreish fruity and citrus flavour on top to keep your thirst perfectly quenched.

Jubilee Ale is available in 500ml bottles at 4.2% ABV and later in the year in cask.  It is available now from The Grape & Grain Wine & Brewery Warehouse to the public and trade.

Alex said: “Keeping with our long tradition of celebrating royal milestones (we’ve done a few over the last 180yrs), this bottle marks the truly extraordinary event of our Queen’s 70 years on the throne.  She makes us proud to be a British Brewer.  We’ll be sending some of the bottled beer for the Queen and her staff to enjoy and we hope it gets the royal seal of approval!”

The Arkell family have long enjoyed marking royal milestones.  In 1953 Sir Noel Arkell, High Sheriff of Wiltshire at that time, carried out the opening of Queen’s Park, Swindon in honour of the Queen’s coronation, and for many years they have brewed commemorative ales.

George Arkell, Managing Director said "Our Platinum Jubilee Ale celebrates a glorious moment in time, and like other commemorative beers we've brewed, including the Queen Mother’s Birthday Ale (100th birthday), and Golden Jubilee Ale, it is a fantastic beer for a memorable event."
