With heavy snowfall and treacherous driving conditions affecting many parts of the region, the Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce Group has advised businesses to remain flexible and ensure the safety of their staff is a priority.
Commenting on this, Claire Prosser, policy executive for the Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce Group, said: “The snowfall has undoubtedly had a considerable impact on business, with many employees finding it difficult to get to work.
“However, both businesses and employees are responding with common sense and are taking advantage of the new technologies available that allow them the flexibility to work from home.
“Staff safety is the priority and we are pleased that businesses are employing flexible working practices. Personal injury or damage to vehicles would be disastrous for all concerned and should be mitigated. What’s more, taken together, business flexibility and employee diligence will limit the economic impact of the latest cold snap."
She claimed that local councils were updating businesses - allowing them to plan ahead.
“We would like to applaud the local authorities, many of which sent out numerous updates in good time allowing employers and employees to plan ahead.”
Her comments were in stark contrast to those of businesses in the area who believed not enough had been done to clear roads and pavements to help people get to work.
