Cheltenham-headquartered fashion retailer Superdry has secured additional funding of up to 25 million from restructuring specialist Hilco Capital

Gloucestershire-based fashion brand Superdry is to close eight of its 104 UK stores this year - but the firm has stressed the move is not related to its cost-cutting measures revealed earlier this year.

A spokesperson for the firm told trade publication Retail Gazette “We can confirm that eight stores operated by our franchisee under licence from Superdry, are in the process of closing.

“The majority of Superdry’s stores in the UK are operated directly by Superdry and there are no plans to close any of them at the present time."

The retailer has shut five of its shops since May: in Ipswich, Luton, Telford, and Lincoln and Stoke On Trent.

Three more store closures are planned in 2023, one in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, and the others in unconfirmed locations.

Earlier this year the firm launched a £12 million share scheme and put its Cheltenham HQ on the market for £4 million – although it intends to remain there.
