Audit, tax and consulting firm RSM has appointed a new capital allowances specialist in its Southampton office. Rupert Guppy joins RSM as an associate director with responsibility for capital allowances across the southern region.

His appointment is part of the continued success and expansion of the national capital allowances team and broadens the Southampton office’s tax expertise.

Guppy is a dual qualified chartered surveyor and member of the ATT with 10 years of capital allowances experience. He joins RSM from E3 Consulting, a specialist consultancy, prior to which he worked for a Big Four firm’s capital allowances team in London.

In his career to date, he has been involved in a variety of high-profile and complex capital allowances projects across the region, including as an expert witness in contentious tax disputes.

John Taylor, RSM’s office managing partner in Southampton, said: "Capital allowances are a key opportunity for many businesses to reduce the effective cost of capital investment. It can be a complex area but nevertheless offers significant planning potential in many circumstances. Rupert’s combined skill set in this area further differentiates us in the local market."
