Mike Pavitt, partner and head of corporate restructuring and insolvency at law firm Paris Smith LLP, has been appointed chairman of the southern committee of insolvency and restructuring trade body R3.
An active member of R3 for 10 years, Pavitt will now serve a three-year term in his new role taking over from Andrew Watling, partner at Quantuma in Southampton.
Pavitt served as vice-chairman of the southern committee from December 2012 until taking over as chairman. Garry Lee, recovery and restructuring manager at Smith and Williamson, now replaces him as vice-chairman.
Pavitt is a recognised authority on insolvency law and practice, and is often invited to write for industry magazines and economics blogs, and to speak at conferences. He has worked exclusively on insolvency related assignments for 15 years, and is highly rated for corporate restructuring and insolvency work in both of the leading legal journals, Chambers & Partners and The Legal 500.
Pavitt joined Paris Smith in 2011, and while his work covers the full range of potential insolvency situations, he trained as a litigator and sits within the firm’s dispute resolution department. He describes this as 'the sharp end' of legal practice, where the majority of insolvency issues first come to light.
