Southampton: Eric Robinson Solicitors completes cycle challenge
A team of 10 solicitors from Southampton’s leading independent legal practice, Eric Robinson Solicitors, has raised over £1,500 pounds in a charity cycle ride as part of celebrations for the firm’s Golden Anniversary.
Battling through cold and rain, members of staff from the firm rose to the physical challenge of cycling over 50 miles across the Southampton region, visiting each of the firm’s five branches along the way.
Starting at the Carlton Crescent offices in Southampton city centre, the team rode to catch the ferry to Hythe, then cycled through Marchwood, Totton and Romsey, before pushing forward on to their offices in Chandler's Ford. The cyclists then carried on their route through Twyford, Bishop’s Waltham, and visited colleagues in Hedge End before finally arriving at the firm’s offices in the centre of Bitterne.
"As it is Eric Robinson Solicitors’ 50th birthday this year, we wanted to do a course with the same number of miles as part of our celebrations," said managing partner and member of the team Catherine Maxfield. "We actually rode 51.6 miles with an average speed 11.3 miles per hour."
The team had undertaken training that was donated by Paul Laslett of Southampton Personal Training company ‘Brightside PT’.
"We completed the course in seven hours 33 minutes and a second, with just over four and a half hours in motion," explained Maxfield. "I don’t think some of us could have done that without support from Paul and Brightside PT and we are also grateful to VANKRU cycling in the Mountbatten Business Centre for their sponsorship of our challenge."
The team has raised over £1,500 pounds for Wessex Heartbeat’s ‘High 5’ appeal to fund a unit for young people with heart conditions at Southampton General Hospital.
