Santander Corporate & Commercial has appointed Mauricio Munguia as international director for London and the South East, a new role which has been created by the bank to increase its support for businesses in the region that are looking to grow overseas.

Munguia joins Santander with a wealth of global experience, where his key strengths are in the LatAm and Central America regions. He will be responsible for developing stronger relationships with new and existing customers who are trading or wanting to trade in these territories and will drive the bank’s international initiatives such as the Trade Portal. The Trade Portal helps businesses identify where the best importing and exporting opportunities are for their particular products and services.

Munguia is relocating to London and has 20 years’ experience in the banking sector, predominately in global transaction banking-related roles at various banks including BBVA, HSBC and Barclays in Spain.

To support trade capabilities across the globe, Santander has an international desk in each of the markets it operates in, dedicated to helping customers who want to grow their business overseas. In 2014, Santander will be doubling the number of trade specialists who can advise UK businesses on exporting and international trade.

Munguia said: "I am delighted to have the opportunity to join a great team of people as we continue to build on our reputation in the sector and expand on our ambitions in the international market. The London and South East region is of great strategic importance to Santander as we continue to grow our SME offering and focus on becoming the SME bank of choice."

John Carroll, head of international business at Santander Corporate & Commercial, said: “Supporting UK businesses looking to trade internationally is a key focus for Santander Corporate & Commercial. I am delighted to strengthen our team with Mauricio’s appointment and to increase the support we can offer businesses in the London and South East through the investment in our local team.”
