South: Barclays appoints Paul Kempster to lead mid-corporate banking in region

Barclays has appointed Paul Kempster to lead the mid-corporate market for the south of the UK. A new role created following a period of continued growth for Barclays mid-corporate, Kempster will manage and drive forward the mid-corporate business proposition across the Thames Valley, Oxfordshire, South West, Solent, South East, Essex and Hertfordshire area. 

The role will see Kempster work to deepen both existing and new client relationships, operating between £6.5 million and £25m turnover. He will be responsible for managing a team of more than 160 colleagues including seven heads of region and more than 70 relationship directors across the South.

Commenting on the appointment, Tony Walsh, head of Barclays Mid-Corporate, UK, said: “I am delighted to welcome Paul into the mid-corporate leadership team. Paul’s appointment demonstrates the importance Barclays places on the mid-corporate market for the UK, and his notable industry knowledge and experience will prove invaluable, as we continue to strengthen our mid-corporate teams and industry specialists, to support clients in fulfilling their business ambitions now and in the future.”

Kempster has nearly 10 years’ experience within the company, having held roles including chief operating officer in corporate banking and head of southern region for Barclays Business Support.

He has held various senior roles externally including RBS, Bank of Ireland and PWC, during an extensive and varied banking and accountancy career spanning more than 27 years.
