Accountants and business advisers BDO, in association with accountancy and finance recruitment specialist CMA Recruitment Group, launches its second annual campaign to find the highest achieving and most talented finance directors from the region’s mid-market companies.

Entrepreneurial, mid-sized companies are the engine for the UK’s economic growth. In the Central South, BDO’s analysis shows the mid-market has grown by 47% in the past four years and accounts for 32% of the region’s turnover, and 29% of its employment.

The Central South Mid Market campaign continues to highlight the importance of the region’s mid-sized businesses and to celebrate their achievements.

For the second year, BDO is partnering with CMA Recruitment Group to identify the most talented and high achieving finance directors and investigate just what it takes to be successful in an uncertain economic climate.

Last year, Paul Winter, chief financial officer at Red Funnel Group, was named region’s Mid Market Finance Director of the Year. He said of the award: “The role of the financial director in the success of an organisation is not always fully recognised, and nominating for this award gives companies the opportunity to highlight the importance of the work performed by individuals in this position. Being recognised for this role has been a huge positive not just for me and my team, but also for Red Funnel.”

Malcolm Thixton, lead partner at BDO Southampton, said: “We will be looking for exceptional performance during 2018, in leadership and management skills, contribution to the performance and growth of the business and demonstrable financial accountability.”

Richard Dibden, commercial director at CMA Recruitment Group, added: “We hope to find finance directors that show a passion for the business and are making an effective contribution to the strategic direction of the company as well as making a wider contribution to the community.”

Finance directors at mid-market companies with turnover between £10 million and £300m, can enter themselves or be nominated by their managing directors or professional advisers. The deadline for entries is Friday December 14, 2018.

The top 10 performing FDs will be announced early in the New Year, with the winner set to be revealed, at a gala dinner in the Spring, alongside the Central South Mid Market Company of the Year.
