The ongoing success of Banbury and Rugby’s largest law firm was recognised this week after the practice made the shortlist for the legal profession’s top awards.

Brethertons LLP, which employs 160 people at its offices in Banbury and Rugby, is a full-service practice, advising corporate and individual clients both locally and nationally.

The Law Society, which represents all solicitors in England and Wales, has shortlisted the business for a top award at its prestigious Excellence Awards taking place in central London on 23 October.

It is competing against five other organisations for the Excellence in Pioneering Legal Services award which recognises firms that demonstrate cutting edge business practice and client service.

The firm has been selected for its ground-breaking new web-based service propertymediationzone.co.uk. The site provides their clients with access to a confidential area for discussions to resolve disputes arising from the ownership, management and letting of property.

The news follows Brethertons being ranked as one of the UK’s leading law firms in The Legal 500, an independent directory offering the definitive judgement of law firm capabilities.

Moving up 112 places in just one year, Brethertons LLP is recognised as the 221st largest law firm in the UK and is the highest ranked law firm in Banbury. Brethertons can trace its roots back to 1813 and the practice has expanded significantly over the last decade, with turnover growing from £2.1 million to £6m.

This growth has been supported by Lloyds TSB Commercial which has provided banking support to Brethertons for over 100 years.

Richard Pell, senior partner at Brethertons, said: “It’s a real honour and mark of our success to be shortlisted for such a prestigious award which will see us judged alongside some of the best organisations operating in the legal profession.

“Brethertons has always looked to innovative in order to provide high value services which meet our client’s needs. The propertymediationzone website is just one of the many ways in which we do this and for it to be shortlisted for one of the top industry awards is a great honour.

“The experience and expertise of Lloyds TSB Commercial has ensured we have a solid financial base from which to continue developing the business and expanding across the region.”

Brethertons’ relationship director at Lloyds TSB Commercial, John McKenzie, said: “Like many industries, the uncertain economic climate is creating new challenges for solicitors but the team at Brethertons have consistently innovated to ensure the practice continues to grow by offering the highest level of service.

“Making the shortlist for this award is testament to this commitment to its clients and we will use our expertise and experience in the legal sector to support the business as it continues to develop and grow.”
