Milestone Creative Ltd, an award-winning agency based in Buckinghamshire, has become one of around 1,400 companies in the UK to become an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT).

EOTs were introduced by the government in 2014 to encourage the success and longevity of SMEs in the UK and has been a growing trend in recent years.

It means its 30 employees will now have a greater ownership and role in running the company.

Other companies, which have become employee owned include Aardman Animations, Richer Sounds and Riverford Organic.

Milestone said that research had shown that EOTs improve performance, resilience and employee retention.

"We’ve always been like a family business. It wouldn’t be right to sell it to another company. It’s much more Milestone to give our team more responsibility," said Jay Roff, the company's joint managing director.

Ian Sutton, joint managing director, added: "A shared sense of ownership is a core part of our culture and key reason for our success. Now it’s for real. Long may Milestone continue!"

Milestone has won several national awards for its creative work and success as an independent agency. It said it was recently voted the UK's leading independent agency for its size.
