Bringing knowledge and collaboration to the South’s property sector

The team at MSP Capital have grown substantially over the last few years, with employee numbers more than doubling since 2021. Skilled underwriters, accountants, valuers, solicitors, and construction experts are all there to ensure our clients get the best funding experience we can offer. There’s also another driver for the team, beyond offering tailored lending solutions to developers. As a specialist lender, our industry means a lot to us. We believe that it’s more important than ever to work with others to prepare our industry for the future.

In June 2023 we launched our ESG strategy – Foundations for Better Futures. As part of this, we wanted to bring together industry experts to share knowledge and insights with our clients and partners. We’ve done this in two ways. We’ve held several ‘Brunch & Learn’ events which share relevant and up to date insights from expert speakers and, most recently, we have partnered with The Business Magazine to launch a new monthly Property Podcast focused on the south of England.

Created in order to give our clients and partners access to leading industry experts, we’ve so far held two events, with a third planned in March 2024. Our first was in June 2023 alongside local solicitors Trethowans. The success of this initial event solidified our desire to replicate this event multiple times a year. We plan to always keep the events free to attend, educational and relevant to property and ESG.

Our second Brunch & Learn was in partnership with industry powerhouse Savills. This event focused on natural capital solutions for sites and an update on market interest rates.

Richard Douglas, Architecture Director from Pro Vision, attended the event. He commented:

“It was a really helpful and interesting event with interesting speakers and a great opportunity to meet other people in the industry.”

For our next event, we’ve partnered with Sillence Hurn, a forward-thinking property consultancy firm based in Southampton. The guest speakers will update the audience on build costs and also discuss women in the surveying industry. Further events will be held in May and October, which are yet to be finalised.

Following the success of our educational events, we wanted to go further and increase our reach to the whole of the south of England. When The Business Magazine reached out about a new Property Podcast this year, we were sold.

The first broadcast, now live, features Adam Tovey, MSP Capital’s Risk and Underwriting Director, Nigel Price, Chairman of Residential at independent estate agent Goadsby, and James Kidner, Partner at law firm Trethowans and a specialist in residential development.

This first half-hour edition covers a range of subjects including interest rates, Build to Rent, the impact of working from home on property demand in the South and the importance of SME developers in driving residential development.

Adam, who spoke on the episode, commented on the launch. “This new partnership will allow us to shine a light on the leading minds from the property industry across the South Coast. I look forward to meeting more guests in the future.”

Episodes will be coming out monthly, with new guests covering topics from sustainable building through to skills gaps in the construction industry.
