Uber arrives in Basingstoke
Basingstoke residents can now book taxis through Uber following the company’s launch in the town.
The Basingstoke Gazette reports that Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council granted Uber’s private hire operator licence with the aim of providing “more consumer choice locally”.
Customers can use the app to book a cab, with a range of different price points dependent on urgency and car size. The app will then keep them updated on how far away their car is, showing its location on a map.
The news means Basingstoke joins other areas in the South East including Brighton and Southampton, however other towns in the region, including Reading, remain off the Uber map for the time being.
Uber is also nearing the launch of its Uber Boat by Thames Clippers service, with Wight Shipyard nearing completion of the new hybrid Uber Boat.
