Thames Valley: Companies shortlisted for Private Business Awards
Three companies based in the Thames Valley have been shortlisted for the 2012 Private Business Awards. Westbury Street Holdings, Ella’s Kitchen and Simon McMurtra, CEO of Laithwaites have been chosen in the second annual Private Business Awards, sponsored by PwC, in association with HSBC Private Bank and in support of the charity LEAP. The companies shortlisted for the awards, which celebrates the best in the private business sector and underline its importance to the UK economy, beat over 600 high quality entries from across the UK.
Westbury Street Holdings is the parent company for leading brands, including BaxterStorey, Caterlink and Benugo, and operates in the food services and hospitality sectors. The Reading-based company was founded on a vision to deliver fresh, locally sourced food, great service and skilled teams through industry leading training. Today, it has developed into a key market player, delivering growth every year since inception and is currently the UK's 3rd largest contract caterer. This progressive track record coupled with the company’s strong values makes them a natural contender for Private Business of the Year.
Henley-based Ella’s Kitchen was founded on core beliefs around the importance of natural, healthy food for young children and developing healthy eating habits that last a lifetime. The brand has stayed close to the needs of its customers and works closely with kids, parents and experts to ensure new products are of the best quality. Its innovative products and focus on good food has made it the fastest growing baby food company in the UK and a strong contender for High Growth Business of the Year.
Since joining Laithwaites in 2008, Simon McMurtrie has transformed the company into a major global business, and despite global economic pressures, Simon’s strategy has continued to drive year-on-year growth. His “hands on” approach, focus on exceptional customer service, and inspiration & empowerment of the team are just some of the qualities that make him a candidate for CEO of the Year.
Andy Latham, South East region private business leader, PwC, commented: “Much has been said about the importance of private business to the recovery of the UK economy and these awards celebrate those private companies who have been leading the way in a difficult economic environment. In a year when the focus of the world is on the UK, these businesses really do represent the ‘Best of British’ and to be short-listed from over 600 applicants is to be congratulated.”
Charlie Hoffman, Managing Director, HSBC Private Bank, added: “Private businesses are an integral part of both the UK’s economy and HSBC Private Bank’s strategy. The Private Business Awards offers a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the sector’s companies and individuals and showcase the outstanding talent within the private sector in the UK.”
The winners of the Private Business Awards will be announced at a dinner to be held at The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London on Thursday September 6.
