Tech company to raise funds for charity known for deploying giant rats to detect landmines and TB
A charity championing animal scent detection innovation has been chosen by a Berkshire B2B tech company as one of its two charity partners.
Staff and management at Theale-based Clarify B2B Limited are raising funds for APOPA UK over a six- month period.
The registered charity works in close partnership with APOPA, the internationally acclaimed charity based in Belgium.
It is known globally for its innovative work deploying African giant pouched rats - known as HeroRATs - to help detect landmines and tuberculosis.
Claire Edmunds, Clarify’s CEO, said: “Over the years we have had a lot of fun raising over £100,000 for the Clarify Foundation and creating lots of opportunities for our teams to volunteer in charity and local community projects.
“This year we asked our team to nominate causes close to their hearts and we were delighted when APOPO was put forward.
“Chelsi Kelly, Clarify Account Director, visited APOPO’s Visitor Centre in Cambodia and saw some of the amazing work being enabled by trained HeroRATs and HeroDOGs, and their handlers, to make communities safer.”
Ros Bird, APOPO UK’s Operations and Fundraising Manager, said: “The UK and international APOPO teams are delighted to welcome and support the staff of Clarify B2B Limited.
“They will be raising vital funds for APOPO’s international cause, which has over 25 years’ experience and is leading the way in the deployment of animal scent detection techniques for social good.
“This partnership will also be helping to raise the profile of APOPO UK following our charitable registration granted in 2022.
“We hope other companies in the UK will follow their example.
“Companies can support APOPO UK in a variety of ways including Charity of the Year initiatives/staff fundraising, payroll giving, cause-related marketing, challenge events, animal adoptions, pro bono support and via third party platform WorkforGood.”
Founded in 2003, Clarify B2B also has an office in Tampa, Florida.
