Visuals for the Scala's studio layout have been released, giving a glimpse of what the new Worcester arts venue will offer, subject to planning permission being granted.

The designs show three multi-use studios, currently named The Stage, The Screen, and The Box, as well as a café that can provide additional performance space, and foyer and reception areas.

The renovation of some of the building's remarkable historic features can be seen on the designs, including its stunning art deco staircase.

With retractable seats, The Stage is perfect for live performances and other workshops; as its name implies, The Screen will host films and talks, including film festivals, live broadcasts, and other screenings not typically shown in multiplexes; The Box will be perfect for workshops, courses and classes, as well as new and exciting digital experiences.

The fully accessible new facilities in the Scala will also develop and support new talent.

The City Council has worked with six local arts organisations to prepare these plans: Severn Arts; Dancefest; Mobilise Arts, a Worcestershire-based inclusive arts organisation; C&T, applied theatre practitioners, technologists and researchers based on Deansway; co-working facility The Kiln and community cinemas operator Vestan.

Paul Sutton, from C&T, said: "Myself and the other arts leaders and organisations who have helped shape these plans alongside the City Council are excited to be sharing these designs with the community.

"Our collective vision is that the Scala will be a welcoming hub in the heart of the city where people can come together to enjoy, imagine, and cultivate a more creative future for Worcester."

The City Council has drawn up a revised scheme to revive the historic Scala and Corn Exchange buildings in Angel Street, following extensive consultation with stakeholders in Worcester's arts and creative communities.

The project is being funded with part of the city's £17.9 million share of the Government's Future High Streets Fund
