Stantec to acquire Barton Willmore

The acquisition of Barton Willmore is expected to be closed by Stantec in April, the latter has revealed.

In Barton Willmore, sustainable engineering and design firm Stantec, are seeking to secure one of the leading planning and design consulting firms in the UK.

“By combining our respective technical and creative capabilities, plus our extensive collective strategic understanding, we believe we can deliver a real step-change to the UK market,” said Iain Painting, Senior Partner, Barton Willmore.

Founded in 1936, Barton Willmore has its headquarters in Reading and offices in Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Kings Hill, Leeds, London, Manchester, Newcastle, and Southampton.

The company employ 300 town planners, master planners, urban and landscape designers, architects, and environmental planners across the country.

Barton Willmore are lead consultant in the realization of Linmere New Community in Bedfordshire. A scheme which will deliver over 5,000 new homes, a primary school, a local center, a park and public open space, and significant employment within a new regional distribution center.

They are also the lead on a complex urban regeneration scheme for Birkenhead Town Centre.

When closed the deal will bring Stantec’s UK workforce to some 2,500 members.

The financial aspects of the purchase have not been revealed.
