Sports climbing: how do we give it a go?

Sports Climbing didn’t just grip the nation last summer – it had an effect globally on millions of people who hadn’t seen it before. The power of the Olympics through the medium of TV showcased one of the most exciting debuts at an Olympic Games and it’s taken us pleasantly by surprise, writes John Dunne, CEO of Parthian Climbing, (left in picture above).

We were all cheering for the GB climber Shauna Coxsey who did herself proud at the Games and Will Bosi (right in picture above) is a hopeful athlete to qualify for Paris 2024.

The three combined disciplines – bouldering, lead, and speed climbing – enthralled audiences and the knock-on effect is climbing centres likes ours in Nursling, Southampton and Reading have been inundated by people of all ages wanting to give it a go.

Our Parthian Climbing centres in Southampton and Reading have been designed to appeal to all levels of climbers – from beginners to professionals, from children to businesses –  who are organising team building days out. We welcome all shapes and sizes and cater from age 7 to 70 who come for a taster session and then sign up for a course having fallen in love with the sport.

Since April we have welcomed thousands of people to our state of the art 25,000 sq ft centre in Southampton which boasts extensive bouldering walls, roped climbing; both lead and top rope, auto-belays and speed climbing.

Parthian Climbing Southampton also houses a carbon copy of the Olympic bouldering wall which featured at the 2021 Tokyo Games. This is the only wall of its kind in Europe and is a big draw for local climbers to try it out.

Our centres have also received interest in companies wanting to hold teambuilding sessions as well as corporate events. Both work exceptionally well and the combination of exciting activity alongside being able to cater with refreshments, including our oven-made pizzas, and licensed drinks make for a great event.

So why not try something exciting, challenging and memorable? Come and try sports climbing at the number one venue on the South Coast.

You don’t need any equipment and we can hire out climbing shoes.
