Leading lawyers in the field of employment law are to speak at the forthcoming Business Risks Masterclass organised by the Paris Smith Business Club. The Club which launched earlier this year assists businesses with effective risk management – by keeping business owners and entrepreneurs informed of key developments in the law which create a potential risk for businesses and then analysing and prioritising that risk.

In addition to providing graded risk guides, using a simple traffic light system, on its website with written updates on the latest legislation, judicial decisions & publications from a range of statutory and regulatory bodies the Club holds quarterly Masterclasses on business risk issues.

At the event which takes place on September 18 at Southampton Football Club, delegates will hear from David Reade QC, Gary Self, along with Clive Dobbin and David Roath, both partners in the employment department of Southampton-based regional solicitors Paris Smith LLP.

David Reade QC has been involved in many of the most high profile employment cases in recent years including representing British Airways in their dispute with Unite. He will speak about covenants and confidentiality and how to minimise the risk from departing employees and directors, giving an insight to the dangers that businesses can face when anyone leaves whether on good or bad terms.

Gary Self a specialist employment law barrister who chairs Employment Tribunals, will talk about how to avoid what can be very expensive and potentially damaging employment tribunal claims, giving essential guidance in our increasingly litigious society in which someone is always at fault or to be blamed.

Other topical employment law risk issues at the Masterclass to be covered will be Compulsory Retirement and discrimination and harassment in the workplace, with the latest developments on the Equality Act 2010.

Peter Taylor, head of dispute resolution and partner at Paris Smith, said: " The Club is delighted to have such top quality speakers to enlighten business leaders on the topical risks that employers face and how to navigate safe passage through the waters of employment law. David and Gary are leading experts in their field and to have them on the same platform in the Solent Region is tremendous. It is set to be a very informative and interactive event."
