Businesses in the South East need to keep up to date with the speed of developments in Mexico.

That’s the message from UK Trade & Investment’s (UKTI) regional Latin America expert Angus Murray, who is urging local firms to sign up for a market visit to Mexico City and Guadalajara.

Up to 25 businesses can join the visit, run by UKTI and London Chamber of Commerce, with support from Santander UK and UK trade organisation ProMexico, which aims to help companies secure new business leads.

Murray said: “Opportunities abound for successful South East businesses, with statistics showing that Mexico’s 116 million people purchased over £1 million of British goods in 2012, across a variety of sectors, including food and drink, aerospace, healthcare and financial services.”

Mexico is the world’s ninth biggest economy with growth of 3% expected for 2013.

On the market visit businesses can benefit from introductions to buyers, interpreting at meetings and extensive local media coverage and prestigious networking events at the British Ambassador’s residence.

Murray added: “For the past decade, Mexico has followed sound economic policies that have delivered solid growth and stable inflation. It is a dynamic market and analysts have predicted that its economy will be larger than the UK’s by 2040. As the economy has grown, so has the demand for imports from the growing middle class, and UK exports of sophisticated goods and services have grown due to that demand.

“I’d encourage local businesses to sign up to our mission, as there is simply no substitute for a personal visit. If you are serious about doing business in this region you have to go there and meet the people, build contacts and experience the market.”

Businesses signing up will receive dedicated and ongoing support, a travel grant (for eligible companies), a briefing and welcome at the Embassy and language and cultural support.

The visit takes place from March 7-14. Companies have until January 31 to register.

Grants are available to reduce the cost of travel for eligible companies.
