Bibby Financial Services (BFS) has appointed experienced financier, John Nelson as head of corporate for the central and southern regions as it looks to grow its corporate funding support throughout the UK.

Nelson, a chartered banker, joins BFS with 20 years’ experience in commercial finance – including 13 years in banking – having held roles at Lloyds Commercial Finance, GE Capital, RBS and Metrobank.

Most recently Nelson was managing director for Asset Based Lending at IGF Group, where he headed up teams responsible for structuring transactions for growth, refinancing, restructuring, MBOs and MBIs.

Joining BFS on 2 January 2,  he will head up a team of corporate managers tasked with developing ABL and larger-ticket invoice finance deals, throughout central and southern regions of the UK.

Speaking of his appointment, Nelson said: “BFS’s scale and capability is unrivalled in the independent sector and I’m delighted to join such a forward looking business at a time of significant growth. BFS is a client-centric, relationship-based provider with growing ABL capabilities and I’m excited to help the business to grow its support for UK PLC further, working with business owners and advisors alike.”

Ben Smith, UK corporate sales director, said: “In recent years, we have significantly developed our corporate funding capability to include stock finance, foreign exchange and asset finance. This has enabled us to write a greater volume of and more sizeable ABL deals, unlocking working capital to help businesses to grow in both domestic and international markets. Having an individual of John’s calibre is a huge advantage to us and I’m certain that his experience and knowledge of the UK finance sector will help us to expand our corporate funding support for businesses even further.”

Supporting businesses with turnover of £5 million to £100m, BFS’s corporate team has structured more than 600 deals across the UK since 2013.
