Hampshire-based Lean business specialists Fedden USP has been awarded European Social Funding to deliver Six Sigma workshops to SMEs in the Solent area.

The funding will be available until July 2015 and enables courses to be delivered that are heavily subsidised for eligible companies.

Six Sigma seeks to improve the quality of process outputs by identifying and removing the causes of defects (errors) and minimising variability in manufacturing and business processes.

Courses will be delivered by Fedden USP and MIT Skills in partnership with Chichester College, Skills Funding Agency and Solent Local Enterprise Partnership.

With the funding available, subsidised courses can be delivered to employers provided the company is an SME with less than 250 employees, the candidate is aged 19+ and has no prior attainment at NVQ Level 2.

Neil Fedden, principal consultant at Fedden USP, explained: “The Six Sigma methodology is the ideal tool to review your systems and procedures to identify and eliminate defects that have worked their way into the business.  It can deliver real and sustainable business benefits in terms of process capability and defect reduction and can result in business savings of £30,000 p.a.”

The first of a series of open courses will be held in Fareham on October 2, 9 and 16.  Alternately, courses can be run in-company where there is a minimum of 10 candidates.
