Andrew Don, a partner at Blandy & Blandy LLP, has qualified as one of the first lawyers in the UK to become a qualified children arbitrator after the Institute of Family Law Arbitrators’ Family Law Arbitration Children Scheme was launched last month to bolster the use of arbitration relating to family disputes. He is already accredited to arbitrate on financial issues.

Family law arbitration has been available to deal with financial matters since its launch in 2012. The new scheme provides the opportunity to resolve by arbitration disputes concerning the exercise of parental responsibility and other private law issues about the welfare of children – issues such as where children should live, how much time they should spend with each parent, and relocation in England and Wales.

Blandy & Blandy’s family law team is ranked in the top tier by both Chambers UK Guide and The Legal 500, the latter labelling it ‘a standout firm for family law in the Thames Valley’, and individually recommending the team’s three partners: Don, Brenda Long and Claire Dyer for their experience and expertise.

Dyer commented: “Our team are members of Resolution, a body of specialist lawyers committed to a constructive approach to family law. Our qualified mediators and trained collaborative lawyers provide a different and increasingly popular alternative, which can help to limit confrontation and avoid the need to attend court.”
