Black Ox Limited, a Media & Events company headquartered in Guildford, Surrey, has acquired the publication and listings activities, business and assets of The Business Magazine from Elcot Media & Events Limited.

The Business Magazine was established in 1993 by David Murray, and from its Reading, Berkshire base has grown to become a leading business publication serving the business community in the Thames Valley and Solent & South Coast regions.

Black Ox has acquired only the publication and listings activities, business and assets of The Business Magazine, specifically the business news website www.businessmag.co.uk and bi-monthly digital magazine, business and sector newsletters and the regional and sector listings and their supporting event activities such as roundtables, seminars and conferences.

Six members of The Business Magazine team – Steve Banbury, Jo Whittle, Nathan Inns, Alan Lindstrom, Pauline Moore and Dan Teuton – have relocated to Black Ox offices at Arlington Business Park. Peter Laurie has been appointed a Senior Consultant to Black Ox.

Under Black Ox ownership, The Business Magazine will continue to be published in Reading, Berkshire and report on the Professional Services, Corporate Finance, Technology, Property and Manufacturing sectors, adding dynamic new sectors and broader regional coverage, from two Black Ox offices in Guildford, Surrey and Ashford, Kent. Black Ox’s Events team will further develop and enhance The Business Magazine’s highly regarded Regional and Sector Listings – Thames Valley 250™, Solent 250™, Southern Tech 100™, Thames Valley SME 100 Growth, Southern Manufacturing 100 and Thames Valley AIM.

The acquisition completed on 24th February 2021 and did not include the Awards activities which remain with Elcot Media & Events Limited.

Black Ox is a subsidiary of Branscombe Group Limited, a private family-owned company based in the South East which unites forward-thinking media businesses and supports their growth ambitions.

Peter Tracey, Chairman of Branscombe Group said:

“We are delighted that our media & events brand BLACK OX has acquired the publication and listings activities, business and assets of The Business Magazine, a respected regional business publication which has served as the independent voice of business in the South for nearly three decades.

BLACK OX has a clear purpose: to inform, promote and connect business communities and the acquisition of The Business Magazine perfectly aligns with that purpose and our growth strategy. We have an exciting growth plan and will commit significant investment behind The Business Magazine’s Brand, our Content, Technology, Digital Marketing, Research and Distribution, to support our clients and members in their business objectives.

Under BLACK OX ownership The Business Magazine will continue to be the independent voice of business and a champion of the people and businesses in the South East.”BLACK OX
