Porsche and Newbury's Vodafone team up to create private hybrid 5G mobile network
At the Nardò Technical Centre in Apulia, Porsche and Vodafone have created Europe's first 5G hybrid mobile private network (MPN), which will be used to further connected car technologies. High-speed connections between cars are made possible by the technology, which may also be utilised to increase safety, amongst other things.
Vodafone uses a private network that is completely connected with its public mobile infrastructure as part of the deployment's hybrid infrastructure component. The area offers both private and public coverage thanks to a "innovative architecture," allowing the local community to take use of the network as well.
Real-time communications, according to Vodafone and Porsche, may provide consumers with advantages including less delays, more bandwidth, enhanced security and dependability and quicker deployment times.
Peter Schäfer is the CEO of Porsche Engineering and the Chairman of the Shareholder Committee of the Nardò Technical Centre. He said this about the partnership:
“At our proving ground in Nardò, we are committed to constantly push technologies to the next level—so our customers can successfully meet the increasing demands of future mobility. With the new 5G network, NTC offers its customers now an even better infrastructure to develop and test intelligent, autonomous, and connected vehicles.”
CEO of Vodafone Business, Vinod Kumar, claimed that 5G MPN can be a 'springboard for the company’s evolution' and that the technology would 'help to transform transport and mobility.'
At Porsche's development centre in Germany, Vodafone and Porsche are already working together on other projects, such as the implementation of a standalone network and network slicing use cases.
