Oxford helicopter operator Capital Air Services (Capital) is flying in the face of the current financial turbulence by expanding its business at a time when many in the industry are downsizing.

The company has just taken delivery of a state of the art Eurocopter EC155, a helicopter capable of carrying up to 8 passengers in speed and comfort. This is the first EC155 available for charter in the UK.

Managing director Michael Hampton said: “We saw there was a demand for a larger aircraft in our fleet and have been pleased with the response we have received since the helicopter arrived.”

According to Hampton, although there has been some downturn in the industry, Capital has had a steady number of requests from people wishing to travel further and the EC155 will help cater for that market.

He added: “Our clients wish to avoid the endless traffic on the roads and prefer to fly. Having been one of the largest helicopter shuttle service providers to the Silverstone Grand Prix, we understand the unique requirements of flying just one, or a large number of clients, smoothly and with no fuss.”

He is optimistic about the future. “We’re looking forward to a busy summer, and to introducing more people to the convenience of private charter,” he said.

Oxford Airport-based Capital has been in business since 1994 and flies from all over the UK and into Europe. The company anticipates brisk business for the forthcoming season. “People still want to travel and be entertained,” added Hampton. Capital is no stranger to glamour and featured in the Girls Aloud Christmas special.
