Whiteley-based HBS Southern Group’s New Energies division is to help develop and deliver a solar PV programme for Affinity Water.

Due to be completed in early 2022, the ground-mounted solar array will feed directly into the Walton Water Treatment Works and generate 535,706 kWh of clean, green electricity per year to help sustainably power the site. Affinity provides, on average, 950 million litres of water per day to more than 3.6 million people in parts of the South.

HBS Southern Group is ranked 192nd in The Business Magazine's Solent 250. James Bull, Managing Director at HBS New Energies said: We look forward to delivering the first phase of this exciting solar programme. It is a crucial first step to helping cut Affinity Water’s carbon footprint and reducing its reliance on grid-supplied electricity.

John Toms, Head of Commercial at HBS New Energies, added: When complete, the on-site renewable source at Walton will contribute to lowering carbon emissions and strengthen Affinity Water’s ability to future-proof operations against volatile energy costs.

Graham Deans, Head of Estates and Facilities Management at Affinity Water, said: “We’re pleased to take this important first step to develop our renewables portfolio as we continue to play our part and realise our plan for net zero operational emissions by 2030 and improving energy efficiency. In working with HBS New Energies we have the expertise on board to deliver and I am looking forward to progressing the next phases of our plan in the months and years ahead.”

HBS New Energies has supported solar programmes for various water service providers, including Anglian Water, Welsh Water, Thames Water and United Utilities.
