David Steinberg, a leading restructuring and insolvency lawyer, will join Stevens & Bolton LLP as a partner from June. He will jointly lead the restructuring and insolvency team with current head Tim Carter.

Steinberg has been joint leader of the insolvency and restructuring group at Clifford Chance in London for the past three years. He has been at the firm all his working life, and a partner in the restructuring and insolvency group for 22 years.

He specialises in advising debtors, creditors and other stakeholders on restructuring and insolvency issues, including cross-border insolvencies, international litigation/asset recoveries and restructuring transactions.

He will be the latest in a series of successful partners to join the firm as lateral hires from leading City firms.

Commenting on his move, Steinberg said: "I am very excited about joining Stevens & Bolton. I share their view that there is a real demand from corporates and financial institutions which require sophisticated restructuring and insolvency advice to address complex problems, but which, because of the size of the deal or simple pressures on liquidity, baulk at paying top City rates. I believe that Stevens & Bolton - with its full service capability and its impressive bench of lawyers, including many ex-City lawyers, is the ideal platform from which to develop this practice."

Managing partner Ken Woffenden added: "David has a fantastic reputation in restructuring and insolvency work, and he will help us develop our finance practice into one of the strongest outside the City.

"We have seen a significant increase in international work at the firm over the past five years requiring restructuring and insolvency advice and David will also play a significant role in helping us to service and continue to grow our international client base outside the UK."

The appointment follows the recent hire of Alex Watt from Clyde & Co who joined the firm's real estate team as a partner last month; and the internal promotion of three new partners, Gabrielle Holgate (pensions), Charlotte Tillett (IP) and Rosie Todd (tax and trusts). The firm now has 40 partners and 135 lawyers.

Stevens & Bolton was awarded "National/Regional Law Firm of the Year 2016” at the Legal Business Awards this month, ahead of six other shortlisted firms from across the UK.
