The Business Magazine-staged and UBS-sponsored Thames Valley Deals Awards returns on November 3. The annual celebration of Thames Valley business deals will be held at Reading FC Conference and Event Centre based at the Select Car Leasing Stadium in Reading.

As is customary the black tie event will attract business leaders from across the region, including corporate finance advisers, lawyers, bankers, private equity investors, accountants, and funding specialists, and of course the management teams that have closed the deals.

Awards can not be made without members of the business community making nominations for each of the 18 awards. Completing our nomination form is quick and free and can be done here...

Gateley Legal has been a long-time sponsor of both the Thames Valley Deals Awards and The Business Magazine. The law firm will sponsor the Corporate Finance Adviser of the Year award, one of 18 to be handed out on the evening.

Gateley Legal has sponsored this award for the last seven years. Gateley Partner Andrew Peddie explained: "Since we first established our office in Reading we have been sponsors of the Awards. As a company actively involved in the Thames Valley deal-making community, we feel it is a natural fit for us to sponsor the award for the region’s premier corporate finance adviser and are delighted to be doing so again this year.

Andrew Peddie, who is based in the firm's Reading office, explains Gateley views the event as: "The premier gathering for the region’s deal-doers, of which we are an integral part.

"As a key legal services provider in the Thames Valley, and nationally, this event provides an excellent opportunity each year to support, meet and engage with dealmakers in the Thames Valley business community who have shared interests and ambitions in the M&A world."

Being closely attuned to the regional developments in the sector, Mr Peddie is well placed to comment on current trends: "The number of transactions coming through has been high for about two years, since the recovery from the initial shock of Covid.

"While the wider economy is clearly going through some major challenges currently, we still continue to see a lot of activity in acquisitions both for corporate buyers and PE transaction work.

"It remains to be seen if sentiment is affected over the next six to nine months by those macro-economic threats, as has happened with larger public/listed company transactions where volumes are down over recent months.

"We are hopeful however, that for those with strong balance sheets and a determination to keep doing deals even through more difficult times will carry on, as has been the case in this region in some previous downturns."

Last year's Corporate Finance Adviser of the Year award was collected by Simon Davies, Partner, FRP Corporate Finance (pictured).

Asked how what would make the difference between a Corporate Finance Adviser nominee and a Corporate Finance Adviser of the Year 2022 winner, Mr Peddie replied: "The volume and quality of their deal-making, their track record is at the heart of this award category, someone who is leading a large number of difficult deals through to a successful completion and achieving the best outcome in all senses for their clients."

If you are or know that person please nominate them now, here, the application is quick and free.
