'Best pub in country' gets permission to open micro-brewery
West Berkshire’s The Bell Inn pub has been granted planning permission to open an on-site brewery.
West Berkshire Council granted the award-winning family owned pub, permission to build a micro-brewery in the garden of the Grade II listed, licensed premises.
The Aldworth pub has been owned and run by members of the Macauley family for more than 250 years.
Remarkably the Macauley family business has twice been named best pub in the country, first in 1990 and again in 2021.
This is the first time that the Macauleys will brew their own produce for sale.
The self brewed, self titled, Bell Beer will soon be on sale alongside the already wide selection of real ales and beers available in the free house.
