Kent philanthropist, 23, recognised by PM for community service
Matthew Bridger, a 23-year-old philanthropist from Ashford, has been awarded the Points of Light Award by prime minister Rishi Sunak for his community service and volunteerism.
It all began in 2018 when Matthew founded Unleashing Lives, a charity dedicated to helping young people in Kent pursue business ventures, full-time education and apprenticeships.
He’s since established the Homeless Evening Support Team and is soon set to launch The Bridger Foundation, providing grants to local charities and mental health support networks.
Another of Matthew’s annual initiatives is The Little House Project, a Christmas campaign which began in 2017.

Together he and a team of local organisations and volunteers donate more than 200 shoeboxes every year filled with essential supplies to people without homes across Kent.
Matthew said: “I’m truly touched and deeply honoured to receive the United Kingdom’s 2241st Points of Light award for my efforts in making a positive impact on the world.
“Service and volunteering have become integral parts of my life, leading me on an incredibly rewarding journey to contribute wherever and however I can.
“This award holds special meaning not just for me, but for all the remarkable individuals who have been part of my endeavours.
“I share this honour with each one of them and express heartfelt gratitude for their invaluable contributions.
“Being part of a community that shares a common vision for a better world is a true blessing, and I’m deeply thankful for the opportunity to contribute to our community.
“I remain steadfast in the ongoing journey of giving back and addressing the critical issues that shape our world.
“This award is more than just a recognition of my efforts – it’s a testament to the power of collaboration and the impact we can make when we come together with a shared purpose.
“I firmly believe that everyone has a voice and the power to change the world – it’s our sole responsibility to use it, and that is what I will continue to do.”
Matthew’s achievement was celebrated by Jo Gideon, MP for Stoke-on-Trent Central, as well as the Rt Hon Damian Green, MP for Ashford.
He added: “Matthew’s work with the Little Shoe Box project is a great example of how an individual can make a difference to so many people.
“It’s great to see him recognised in this way.”
