South West business support organisation Business West hosted a celebration at Leigh Court to mark Peru's entry into the ATA Carnet scheme. This scheme facilitates the temporary export of goods and equipment, simplifying international trade for businesses, musicians, film productions and other organisations.

With Peru's inclusion, the scheme now spans 79 territories globally, enhancing opportunities for international commerce.

The Peruvian-themed event featured a selection of Peruvian cuisine by award-winning Epic Caterers. Guests, including ATA Carnet customers, suppliers, and Business West staff, were treated to flavours that highlighted the caterers' culinary expertise, sparking lively discussions among attendees.

"It's great to see Peru join the ATA Carnet scheme, opening new doors for our customers to explore global markets without the burden of import duties and taxes," said Catherine Stephens, Head of International Trade Services at Business West.

A special attraction was the presence of alpacas from the local Cadbury Alpaca Farm."Interacting with the alpacas was not only a delight but also symbolically connected us to Peru's rich heritage,"  Catherine added.

Charlotte Brockwell from Cadbury Alpaca Farm shared with us how they embarked on their journey of sustainable farming, "We wanted to farm in an environmentally friendly manner, with high animal welfare standards. We built our family of 29 alpacas and one llama over the last 12 years; breeding alpacas and offering tours of our fibre farm. We shear them annually for their fibre, the primary reason alpacas were domesticated, producing environmentally friendly luxury products, such as our soft thermo-regulating, moisture-wicking socks. Our farming practices are gentle on the land, reflecting our commitment to sustainability."

The day also included an educational quiz about Peru, enhancing participants' knowledge of the country's culture and its significance in expanding trade connections. The quiz winner took home a coveted Paddington toy, celebrating another iconic symbol of Peru.

James Monk, Commercial Director at Business West, noted, "Our specialists provided valuable insights into the benefits of using ATA Carnets and the advancements in digital trade documentation, particularly Digital Carnets. We are committed to staying at the cutting edge of trade solutions."Phil Smith, Managing Director of Business West, concluded, “Today is not just about marking a new chapter in trade but also about strengthening relationships within the Business West community and beyond. Whether it's discussing future innovations or savouring the Peruvian cuisine provided by our team at Leigh Court, today is a testament to Business West’s commitment to enhancing global business opportunities for all our customers and businesses in our region.”
